Question on Charcoal Towels

Charcoal question answered.

Q: Hello,
Do you plan to sell charcoal towels? Why don’t you sell them? Since you sell the wristbands, why not headbands? Can the charcoal benefits still remain in those types of terrycloth products?

Thank you for your amazing website! I do hope to hear back from you and place an order soon!

Joanne

A: Hi Joanne, thank you for your patience. We receive a lot of emails and it is not always possible to give a timely reply.ACCloth 300x200 - Question on Charcoal Towels

No we do not sell charcoal towels because we are not convinced of its efficacy.  When we started our business we were very aware of such products as they have been available in Asia for quite sometime and now here in North America and Europe it is becoming almost trendy to use products with activated charcoal.
Last week I received a high end magazine that was sporting a plush towel ‘with activated charcoal powder’ in it thereby they were claiming that it was ‘highly absorbent’ more so than a regular towel. This particular towel, just one towel mind you, was going for the tune of ninety some dollars! $$$  It just does not seem very practical.
We do carry products such as socks and undergarments that have bamboo charcoal nanoparticles in the material. These are very well made and once the charcoal is basically no longer present either due to the repeated washings or it just has reached its saturation point and can adsorb no more, the socks are still quite durable and comfortable, but they do lose their odor adsorbing efficacy after about six months, assuming they are being worn often.  Most people are not too keen on not having an expensive towel not last longer than that.
Please note that the above mentioned undergarments are not suitable for flatulence, but just sweaty body odor.  For flatulence you need something that has more charcoal that is on the surface to take care of odor, such as our various charcoal pads that you can find here,  which will stop flatulence dead in its tracks and keep you from embarrassing moments.
We also make available our 100% activated charcoal fabric.  (Please note that charcoal and carbon are used interchangeably.)  This is pure, 100% activated charcoal fabric that you can use in a wide variety of applications from water and air filters to wound dressings and so much more in between.  It is highly efficacious for adsorbing chemicals, toxins, odors, smoke, etc. It does say that it is ‘washable’ but the reality is, when you wash this fabric it is inevitable that you will also wash out some of the charcoal and you will use up some of its surface area with the water and soap. But of course because of charcoal’s high surface area, meaning its ability to adsorb is so high that it will still work after being washed, how long, I cannot say because there are so many variables.
So that is the long answer on why we do not carry the ‘charcoal bath towels.’  We are just not convinced that it is truly the value for your money. Lets say you fell and got an open wound that was not healing. Would you put the charcoal towel on it and would it help?  I highly doubt it.  But if you cut up some of the charcoal fabric and put that over the wound would it help?  It is very possible that it would, please see this link for more info on charcoal fabric and wounds: Charcoal fabric used as wound dressings
In regards to the headbands, it is a good idea, it would be practical and would be on par with the wristbands made from the charcoal nanoparticles, I will pass your suggestion on. 🙂
I hope this helped.
Kind regards, Kimberly
