DIY Charcoal Face Mask, So Easy & The Results Are Amazing!

Making a charcoal face mask is so easy and the results can be amazing.health powders topical 02 1qt 1000px front 1 300x300 - How to make an Activated Charcoal Facial Mask for Skin Care (DIY)

Activated charcoal adsorbs many times its own weight in impurities and because of this, it is the perfect way to deeply cleanse your skin naturally. A charcoal facial mask purifies by drawing out toxins from deep tissue, often bringing relief to a myriad of chronic skin issues, such as acne, rashes, hives, boils, skin abscesses, scars, and insect bites, minor burns and wounds and so much more.

You can easily make your own DIY facial mask within minutes.

Hi, I am Cheree of Natural & Frugal: Raising 6 kids, and I am here today to tell you about one of my favorite face masks that I make myself using Charcoal House’s Topical First Aid Hardwood Activated Charcoal Powder.

After I have done a charcoal facial, I remember why I love doing it so, as my skin not only feels incredibly clean, but it looks amazing and feels so soft.

Simple charcoal facial mask recipe:

  • 1 1/2 tbsp of Topical Hardwood Activated Charcoal Powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp of water (more or less)
  • Coconut oil (or any pure oil)

Directions:

  • Step 1: Add the charcoal powder to a bowl & slowly add the water until the consistency of pudding, you may need to add Charcoal mask 4 263x1024 - How to make an Activated Charcoal Facial Mask for Skin Care (DIY)more or less than 1 and a 1/2 tsp of water.
  • Step 2: Apply a thin layer of oil on face (I like coconut oil.) Using your fingers, gently apply the mask evenly onto the face. I prefer my mask to be thick, the more charcoal the better. If you prefer not to get charcoal on your fingers, use cotton balls.
  • Step 3: Leave on for 20 – 30 minutes, the longer you leave it on, the more it adsorbs. If you leave on longer than 30 minutes, you will want to mist with water to keep the mask moist and free from cracking.
  • Step 4: To remove the mask, gently remove charcoal paste with a paper towel and then wash the rest off with warm soapy water.
  • Step 5: Follow with your favorite facial moisturizer.
  • Other: I usually do the mask before I shower and wash it off as soon as I get in. If the charcoal is not coming off with soapy water, adding a little baking soda will usually do the trick.

Options:

  • You can add several of these items below to the mask by adjusting water and charcoal powder accordingly. For example, add less charcoal if adding dry ingredients, and follow directions above.

Make sure you protect clothing or counters when using activated charcoal. This is because charcoal is black and messy. If you do get it on anything try using warm water, baking soda, and dish soap in a scrubbing paste to get it out, you can also add baking soda to your laundry load.

We love it!

I have teen daughters and they love using this mask as much as I do. It leaves the skin feeling fresh, firm, soft, glowing, and totally revived.  You can use this mask as often as you feel it is needed, a couple of times a month, once a week, twice a week, or daily. It all depends on you, your skin issues, and your skin needs. Get started now!

  1. The charcoal facial mask really works well on drawing out toxins. I usually use it. That’s great!

  3. you mean instead of water to use, you replace it with apple cider? 🙂

  4. I mix mine with apple cider vinegar and just scrub myself with it, in the shower of course. Makes a lovely mess but I feel great after 🙂

  5. Hi. After how many applications did your skin lighten after using the charcoal? And how frequent did you use it, like twice a week? Thanks! 🙂

  6. This is awesome! I’ve switched to all natural DIY facial products and have been looking for different recipes. I already tried the Charcoal + Elmer’s Glue peel and it lightened my skin, pulled off tiny facial hairs and got off some of my blackheads. I cannot do that everyday but I love the adsorption effect of charcoal so I’m really glad I came across this post. 😊

PS: I have sensitive, acne-prone, combination skin with deep acne scars and teeny-tiny fat “pockets” all over my face. This is the result of my mom squeezing my acne when I was young and use of Accutane.

  7. Was very messy! My sink was covered with charcoal after the wash 🙁 peel mask would be better!

  8. This sounds like such a wonderful refreshing thing I will try. I am so glad to see Cheree writing on this site, as she extols this charcoal all the time! So much better than synthetic spa chemicals.
